8 HABITS TO CHANGE YOUR LIFE

In the following, I would like to share with you the most important habits that have helped me to change throughout my life. Moving between different countries, between different projects and relating to very different people, I needed to learn how to adapt as quickly as possible.

And yes, also and especially when separating from a loved one and finding the way back to my (new) self, creating habits to ease change helped me to cope, transform and evolve. After all, I care most about feeling the happiest I can and performing at my best. Because I am called to inspire others to live joyfully.

Playing with my habits and challenging myself to shift my ideas about myself and how things work was and still is most powerful for me. So simply let me take you into what has worked for me. Maybe it ignites you as well.

Please take it as suggestions and inspiration, not as an ultimate truth. We are all different and function in different ways. My intention is to offer you ideas to develop your own ones from. Get creative after reading, don’t shy away from trying things out.

Now, this is how I remind myself to stay flexible – and it also shows how I talk with myself in my mind as to empower and keep myself on track (the first one is my favorite and works miracles on its own)…

1. SET THE FREQUENCY OF YOUR DAY

Make it your habit to feel good, no matter what – as much and as often as you possibly can. Especially upon waking up, simply practice feeling good and keeping this feeling as long as you can. Repeat throughout the day if you remember and have fun with it. Be happy for no reason. It’s fun!

2. CREATE A DIFFERENT DAILY ROUTINE

Like getting up at a different time, shifting around your most common habits within your schedule, changing the schedule, taking a different way to work or to do your shopping, adding something or taking something out. See how you can do the same things in various ways.

3. START SOMETHING NEW

Try out something new. Do something you’ve always wanted to do but never have done or start a new hobby. Challenge yourself to stretch beyond your comfort zone – just a little – so that you can grow and gain different insights. How about that course in dancing that you’ve always wanted to take? Or possibly try yoga? Or skydive! Feel alive again.

4. MEET NEW PEOPLE

Seek new connections. Or go to new places – near or far. People and places always are enriching in offering perspectives. Get in touch with different mindsets to discover more of the diversity of this world and learn something new. There is always more to explore than what you know. Be excited about expanding your horizon – there’s so much amazing stuff out there!

5. CHANGE YOUR DIET FOR A DAY

Or for a week, even a month, make a cleanse. Changing the intake of food into your body has a very quick and dramatic effect and is a very good tool to shake up old routines. It changes your body chemistry and with that also patterns of thinking. Just make sure to do it in a healthy and joyful way. It will do wonders for you!

6. DO SOMETHING YOU LOVE, EVERY SINGLE DAY

Even if it’s just for 5 minutes a day. Make room to feel pleasure and joy, so that you nourish your happiness. It’s the little things that ignite our inner fire. The more we do them, the brighter that flame burns. The more of them we collect, the bigger the fire grows. For a start, write one positive sentence about yourself every day or write one positive sentence about another every day.

7. CULTIVATE AWARENESS

Keep track of your thinking, your doing and your emotions – observe how they all correlate and how you can influence them. Note your observations by writing, so that you can follow your own progress. Observe how your thoughts form your words and your words your experiences. Everything is easier when seeing through the mist. Get to know yourself!

8. THINK WITH INTENTION

Play the game of choosing a thought and thinking it consciously with the intention to see how it changes things for you. Become more aware of yourself and understand how you function. This will make it much easier for you to be flexible. Apart from that, you’ll comprehend how your thoughts determine your direction. From there you’ll learn easily how to pick thoughts that bring you joy. Remind yourself to play more!
